Hotel Mediodia

The room was newly renovated, with a nice view of the station, a small fridge, and a 3/4 double bed. I booked the cheapest single room and was pleasantly surprised. If you're coming or going through Atocha, the location is hard to beat. A few things gave me pause: there are steps up to the lobby, I couldn't see how to adjust the heating, and traffic was loud with the window open. With it shut, though, the soundproofing was excellent. You can hear noise from the corridor and other rooms, but I had considerate neighbors. I'd be interested to hear how well the AC works in warm weather.

We had a lovely balcony and a view over the square behind Hotel Mediodia, including the Reina Sofia Museum. The room was small but very clean, and the beds were comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the breakfast buffet had plenty to choose from, running from 7-11am. The location worked perfectly for us, with museums, gardens, the train station, and great restaurants all within walking distance. I'd definitely stay again.

We stayed just one night and wouldn't come back. The hotel looks nice from outside, but inside it felt unwelcoming and very basic, more like a dorm room than a thoughtfully designed hotel. No kettle, coffee maker, or complimentary water. The pillows were rock hard, the mattress uncomfortable, and street noise was a problem. The bathroom looked recently updated, but had no toiletries on the counter, just the bare minimum. Its location close to Atocha in central Madrid is convenient, but the surrounding area felt dirty, with cheap cafés and kebab and shawarma places. I chose it for train access to and from the airport, but taxis turned out to be more practical. We're used to hotels providing water, basic amenities, and comfortable beds, and Mediodia didn't meet that expectation.

The room was spacious and good value for the money. Walls are paper thin, though, so you hear everything from the next room and the hall. The location is great, right by Atocha Station, Prado Museum, and El Retiro, with good restaurants nearby and a bus and taxi stop out front. Apart from the noise, all good.
