Hotel Teide

Had a really fun weekend with friends at this hotel. The morning receptionist was about as grumpy as you can get, and kicked us out of the pool for no reason. Still, it was a great hotel and we had a good weekend, even with that crappy receptionist.

We left without staying. When we arrived at 01:00, the receptionist said our booking was for one person only, even though we'd selected a regular room and nothing said it was for one. There were no empty places. First he said we'd have to pay for the second person, then while we were checking options he said the hotel was full, and after we agreed to pay for two, he said it was no longer possible. He also claimed all rooms in Spain are booked for one person only, which I'd never encountered before. He was rude and incompetent. The room is very small. Google map and booking show a standard room for two, while he showed us a picture of what he said a single room looks like on his phone. The area felt terrible and creepy. We sat there trying to decide what to do, and looked at reviews. I wish we'd checked earlier, since they were all bad. With the island full of tourists and few accommodation options, I think people turn a blind eye. Other guests arrived who'd apparently been in a long conflict with him, perhaps over the same issue. We didn't wait for it to end and just left. I'm attaching a photo of the person working reception at the time. The place itself is awful, and the photos don't match reality. Be careful!

We found bedbugs in our room, and my girlfriend and I ended up with around 20-30 bites. I told Bea at reception as soon as I discovered them, and she answered disrespectfully and arrogantly, saying I had brought them and it was my fault. The next day I spoke to manager Juanma. Bedbugs are completely unacceptable in a hotel, so I asked for at least some of the money back. He refused. He did say they wouldn't charge me for cleaning up the bedbugs, which surprised me, as that could have been another remarkable conversation. Juanma was very kind and respectful to me, but that didn't fix the situation. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone who doesn't want bedbug bites or to wash their clothes in 90-degree water after their vacation. I'm very upset, since I wanted to resolve this another way. It looks like this review is worth the money the hotel didn't give back.

Leaking water and messy, clogged pipes, with staff who seemed unqualified, rude, and lost. Just a horrible place. I should have read the comments first. Seeing the owner post a 5/5 review of their own hotel to raise its Google reviews rating is also a huge warning sign.
