We Hostel Palma Albergue Juvenil

I usually don't consider myself picky, but I found this place pretty unbearable. As a woman travelling alone, I definitely wouldn't recommend it. It's not really a youth or community hostel, and most guests seemed to be men around 30-60. I had to wear AirPods every day just to get some sleep. The techno club next door makes weekends incredibly loud, with deep bass, and people smoking in the alley. There are construction sites around too. The location is okay for catching a bus into the centre, but walking there takes about 40 minutes even if you're fast. The showers were inconvenient, and the hostel was under construction while I was there. The kitchen has only two seats, so in winter you have to eat outside on the balcony or wait for a seat. The drawers under the beds are so loud that I couldn't pull mine out without worrying about waking everyone, and they kept waking me up too. The bed stairs were very hard to climb up and down. Unfortunately, my room had only men in it.

We checked out early because the place was so bad. The room smelled awful, and in the morning the girls' bathroom sink water was black. There were bedbugs, we had to put our own sheets on the bed, and there was no soap in the bathroom. My friend and I had booked to share a bunk, but someone else took it, so we ended up apart. It's far from the centre. Don't stay here if cleanliness and convenience matter to you.

I found bedbugs in my bed, which was bad enough, and then things got much worse. Around 5 AM, I was using the kitchen when the night staff member came over in an aggressive, rude and vulgar manner. I said straight away I was fine paying the 12€ night fee to use the kitchen, but instead he told me to pack up and leave. He threw me out onto the street in the cold at 5 in the morning. I've stayed in hostels around the world and never had anything like this happen. After I contacted Booking.com, the hostel accused me of stealing food, which was ridiculous. Booking reviewed the situation and refunded me. I'm shocked this place is still operating. The staff member on the night of November 28-29 should not be working with guests. It felt unsafe and completely unprofessional, especially for solo travelers. Stay far away. There are much better, safer places nearby.

Clean hostel with plenty of services, and I had a good stay. The ventilation above my bed was loud and couldn't be switched off, so bring earplugs. With those, it was wonderful.
