Hotel Puerto Palace

The chefs were a great help with my daughter’s food allergies, preparing separate dinners of her choice when we requested them the night before. That helped us feel sure she could eat safely. We were also impressed by the quality and range of food at breakfast and dinner. Breakfast was delicious, with hot food cooked and served fresh by the chefs, plus plenty of pastries, fruit and yoghurt. Restaurant staff were friendly, reception staff helpful, and the bar service was good. Evening entertainment was a bit dull and could be better. We had a lovely week and were very happy with our choice. We paid extra for a pool-view room, which I’d recommend because the balcony had a great view of Mount Teide. The bed was comfortable, cleaners did a good job, and the gardens and pool area were immaculate. It wasn’t very busy this time of year, so there was no trouble finding sun beds. There was some road traffic noise by the pool. The hotel is on a hill. We didn’t mind walking to and from town because we’re active, but some people will need a taxi to avoid the uphill climb back. After dinner we usually enjoyed a quiet drink in the lounge.

Take off a star and the rating would fit the standard better. The positives: the staff are very friendly, rooms are large, breakfast is nice, and the pool area is pleasant. There’s limited parking, plenty of sitting areas, and everything is within walking distance, though bring good shoes. The pool view is good if you’re on the main side, and the pool area is screened from public view. There’s also a nice view of Teide. The rooms need updating and you can hear everything. You’ll probably have a neighbour who smokes. The beds need to be burnt at the stake 😛. I asked reception four times for a softer mattress or a topper and they wrote it down each time. Your chiropractor will get rich. The TV didn’t work, but they managed to do something about it. The “hotel gym” is private and costs 10 euros. About 90% of guests are German pensioners. Bar drinks taste like drink mix and water, coffee like instant, and pizza like frozen pizza, though it’s okay if you’re hungry. There’s heavy traffic right outside the pool area.

We found the shuttle really useful. It went to the bus station and continued on to the commercial centre, while the hotel itself was in a quiet area. We spent Christmas week at Hotel Puerto Palace, and it felt very festive. The staff were helpful, the room and restaurant were brilliant, and everywhere was spotless. It was cold inside, though, and the air conditioning couldn't make up for it. Still, a lovely hotel, and thank you for having us.

The food was the big highlight for us. Rooms are a little dated, but well maintained, and the pools and jacuzzi were clean too. If you're after sunshine and shopping, this is a good spot, with a shuttle into town and the centre not far away. Don't miss happy hour. There's also a section set aside for anyone who wants to sunbathe nude.
