Hostal Costa Azul

We were in room 311 for one night. At 1 a.m. we woke up and found bed bugs in the beds. We were told no other rooms were available when we asked to move, and nobody offered another solution. The receptionist didn't respond helpfully, so we left at 2 a.m. with nowhere to go except the airport. Weeks earlier, other guests had apparently reported the same problem, but it still hadn't been dealt with. We're now struggling to get a refund and the hostel isn't responding. Avoid staying here until the place has been thoroughly disinfected and the issue acknowledged and addressed publicly. I'm still getting more bites, and can only hope we managed to get rid of them.

It was heartbreaking to discover bed bugs in room 311 at 2 a.m. We called to ask for another room, but weren't given one. Maybe they really were fully booked, but we were still left there with the bugs. The next day they brought clean sheets and blankets, which was kind of them, but the bugs live in the bed, not the bedding. That didn't make us feel safe about the health risks, and I wouldn't recommend staying here. They later said we should have come to reception in the morning to ask for a room change. When we called about the bed bugs, nobody told us to do that.

The bedding felt damp, and there were bed bugs in the room. I used my sleeping bag instead of their sheets, but still couldn't sleep. I wouldn't recommend it for health or safety.

The place was grimy, rusty, and smelled bad. During the day some strange thrift-store gadgets were running. Once they were off in the evening, the smoker's den smell and the odor of a dead rat became really noticeable.
