Pensión Montoreña

We’re in our fifties, and this place wasn’t really suited to a couple like us. It seems much better for young backpackers travelling on a shoestring. We got lucky, since we had no reservation anywhere. We showed up and they gave us a room with one regular bed and bunk beds.

Roberto was my receptionist, and he was very attentive and welcoming. This is a good place to sleep and get an early start, with comfortable beds, great AC, and hot water. The showers are shared but clean and tidy, and other guests seemed considerate about cleaning up after themselves, so please do the same. Food and sightseeing are easy to reach on foot, there’s great food nearby, and there’s a bus stop for longer trips. It’s a basic place, so don’t expect lavish rooms or lots of amenities. People start moving and chatting around 6:30 to 7:00 in the morning, as you’d expect in a tourist area, but from 9:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. it was quiet. Great location and price. I’ll be back.

The courtyards, tunnels, alleyways, and all the little corners make the hotel worth exploring, with photo opportunities everywhere. We had a wonderful stay, and the staff were wonderful too. It’s quirky and unique, with a great central location. If you want modern, anonymous rooms with every convenience, this isn’t the place for you.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and the studio double room was a charming little suite for a great price, with a large bathroom and kitchenette. It stayed dark and quiet overnight, the AC worked, and the bed was comfortable, though on the firm side. It’s an easy walk to the centre if you’re not hauling heavy bags. Seems ideal for a couple wanting a budget romantic break. I’ve no idea how you’d park nearby, which seems to be a common complaint in negative reviews. I’d take a taxi from the station or airport.
