The produce is the real highlight for me: there's a huge selection of fresh fruit, vegetables, and nuts, all displayed beautifully and looking incredibly fresh. The quality and variety are top-notch, whether you're after premium ingredients or just a quick local snack. The building itself is gorgeous, too, with a beautiful dome and bright stained glass. A real treat for anyone who loves food. Highly recommend it.

You could spend hours here, just looking around. The displays of fresh meat, quality jamon and cheeses, colorful fish laid out on ice, and heaps of Valencian oranges and tomatoes make it such a spectacle. Surely one of Europe's finest markets, and a must when you're in this lovely city.

At Paella Chef, I had the best paella in Spain! I ordered the black rice, and it was so juicy and tasty. It was only €6 a portion, and they heat it up for you. The raw seafood place was great too. Those oysters were huge, really plump and juicy, especially compared with the ones I've had in Canada for $2 each. At €3 apiece, they felt totally worth it. I ate four oysters and two red prawns. The prawns are sold by weight, and mine came to €5 and €7 each. Absolutely worth it, and the best prawn I've ever had. Maybe Japanese lobster could top them!

The Mercat Central is a great way to get a feel for Valencia's food culture and everyday life. It's lively, but the bustle doesn't feel chaotic, and some vendors are happy to explain what they're selling, even if you're only looking around. There's a lot to see in the bright, spacious building, from fresh seafood and meat to fruit, vegetables, spices, and local specialties. The produce looks remarkably fresh and is presented with care. Come to shop, grab something simple to eat, or just wander. The Mercat Central de València is well worth a visit and one of Europe's most impressive food markets.

It's a little touristy, but still a fun stop in the old town. Everything we tried was good, especially the octopus sashimi at the fish section of the mercato. The service was adorable and the seafood so fresh. Take your time, and get there early if you want to avoid the crowds.
