Ghion Hotel

It’s a historic hotel with a huge compound and lots of greenery. You can find it near the national stadium and meskel square. I’ve attended different events here, and the green surroundings make the hotel service worth recommending.

The natural setting and location are really good, but the service is BAD. Staff seem to have an old-fashioned service mentality, with poor communication and little welcome. I’ve seen an employee watching YouTube behind the counter while we had to yell to get service. A customer at lunch asked for the Wifi PW and was told it was only for room gust, then walked away after being treated rudely. The hotel should learn from nearby hotels. This is a government place, and it shouldn’t be in the hotel business at all. I’m not coming back.

The people working here, including the facilitators, servers, and technicians, are mostly kind, sweet, and cooperative. They keep the place going with their warmth, even though there’s clearly a lot of maintenance to do. They deserve a raise. The kitchen also needs attention because meals can take too long, and food service quality changes from day to day. The waiters' supervisor could use training to handle pressure and busy periods and guide the staff positively. There’s plenty of space, but the restrooms are too few and often have little or no water. For training sessions, special curtains would help keep sunlight off the projector notes. I hope to see the place improve by my next visit. Good luck!

The food at the traditional restaurant, tekul, was delicious. We had two kinds of tibs and a beef steak, and the prices felt fair for the quality. The staff were attentive and the service was great. It’s a clean, quiet place with traditional vibes that works well for large groups. The hotel dates back to the emperor's time and is still intact. I don’t think people have the right impression of it. It’s worth trying, and it was a beautiful experience.
