Our boys loved the cosy two floor setup, which felt more like a little apartment than a room. Everything was spotless, with tea and coffee in the room and more Nespresso options in the nearby communal building, where there was also space to eat if you wanted to use it. Pascal the concierge greeted us and was lovely, patient with my average French, and full of useful local tips. There’s a fabulous boulangerie close by, and town is an easy walk. We only stayed one night, but would happily come back to Angers for longer.

Getting into town is easy, and the bus stop is just a few steps away. Shops with good food are nearby too: Chez Etienne for fantastic cheese, Le Potager for fresh fruit and vegetables, and Boucherie de la Madeleine for great meat and sausage, which you have to try. The train station is close as well. The hosts are kind and helpful, and this was a wonderful place to stay in Angers.

The guesthouse is arranged around a garden, and there’s a shared room for breakfast. Musicians may especially appreciate the very professional recording studio at the far end of that communal space. The hostess was very pleasant, and it’s a beautiful place.

We came to Sophie's on a bike trip, and there was a covered spot under the garden awning to shelter the bikes. It’s quiet, with a charming little garden, and very close to a shopping district. Breakfast was delicious, with homemade jams and yogurts, and the price was very reasonable. A lovely welcome too. Good place to know.

Sophie takes such good care of her guests, and the breakfasts were absolutely delicious. I spent several days at Madeleine et Compagnie while passing through Angers. The rooms feel like little havens, with shops and the city center nearby. I’d happily return, and recommend it to anyone who enjoys a city center stay with a country feel.
