Hôtel Portetta

The hotel's location is still its best feature. If the cocktails had been up to scratch, the terrace and live bands could have made for a great après-ski moment. We stayed for a second time, in a standard room. Our first visit was ten years ago, when it felt truly upmarket, the food was much better, and most guests seemed to be British couples or families with teenagers. This time it felt chaotic, with small children running around. Much of the food disappointed us, including rancid foie gras, and service was disorganized. The bar staff need to learn their cocktail ingredients and some barista skills. It's hard to understand how, in the French Alps, they couldn't make a pot of cafetière or a Negroni, which was so watery from too little gin. Breakfast was good apart from one day when the omelettes were inedible. The ski shop provided the best service: they brought out our boots and skis and put them away at the end of the day. Reception were polite and helpful, but most of the wait staff seemed like gap year students.

The ski setup is a real plus: the hotel has its own rental shop, skis are ready in the morning and collected at night, and boots are stored on racks to dry overnight. The ski staff know their equipment, conditions, and weather. The hotel sits in a peerless ski-in, ski-out position in Courchevel 1650. Rooms, restaurant, staff, and service were all great. I can't rate it highly enough.

It's my happy place. The food is delicious, especially outside on the lovely terrace when the sun is out. The hotel feels cozy, is beautifully decorated, and has a welcoming atmosphere and staff. Its position is perfect for skiing in and out. Simply the best. Merci!

As first-time skiers, we didn't know what we were doing, but Portetta made everything simple and stress-free. They recommended instructors, arranged equipment hire in the on-site ski room, booked lunch for us, and had our ski passes ready at check-in. Nothing was too much trouble. We stayed half-board and ate breakfast and dinner at the hotel every day; the food was always terrific. Service was excellent, and the ski-in/ski-out location made the whole trip easier. Portetta couldn't have done more for us. I have no negative comments and will definitely be back. I'll recommend them to everyone. Thank you, Portetta!
