City Residence Access Strasbourg

For a run-down place without a phone or breakfast included, paying €246 a night in December felt unbelievable. Two stars is generous. It’s like a budget motel or student dorm, a little better than the other City Residence at 1 Rue des Magasins, but still needs a lot of work. Some areas are roughly finished and the furniture is old and worn. The elevator barely worked, and the toilet kept flushing continuously. I called reception about it, but they never fixed the problem.

Mould was visible in the room, and the smell made the stay uncomfortable and worrying. It’s a serious hygiene issue and completely unacceptable. Reception staff were rude and dismissive, with no courtesy or professionalism and no effort to deal with our concerns. They only made a terrible stay worse. The place felt unclean, unwelcoming, and poorly managed, and it ruined our night in Strasbourg. Avoid it and spend your money elsewhere.

The staff were nice, even later in the evening, and the breakfast was better than the online photos usually make it look. But I wouldn’t come back. The rooms were quite worn down: my toilet was broken, I’m pretty sure the shower had mould, and every time we returned after being out, the smell was HORRENDOUS. The kitchen tap knob kept coming off.

The location was fine, but the room was far worse than I’d expect for the price. I knew this wasn’t a high-end hotel and didn’t expect luxury, but everything felt old and worn out. There was a strange smell in the bathroom, yellow tiles in the shower, and a toilet that didn’t work properly. The kitchen tap was loose, and one bedside lamp didn’t work.
