Leatham Park Guest House

I only had to message to get the Wi-Fi details. We based our booking on the reviews and couldn’t understand why people called this place “fabulous.” It’s a basic, dated hotel on a rather unpleasant street. Each time we walked up or down, we came across men and women who made us feel uneasy, and I didn’t feel safe with my children. No one was there when we arrived, despite me giving our arrival time. I called and sent messages, then the manager turned up about half an hour later. The greeting was brief: here’s a key, fill in this form, there’s cereal for the morning, enjoy your stay. We didn’t see anyone else until we left two days later, when we passed another family in the sitting room.

The location was great, but the place looked exactly like a back-street B&B. It felt mediocre to us and seemed suited to families on a budget. We decided not to stay. We did speak to a family who were staying there, and they seemed happy and kindly showed us photos of the inside.

It’s a bit dated-looking, but don’t let that put you off. Everything was really clean and smelled fresh. The staff were lovely and went above and beyond to help with anything we needed.

It wasn’t suitable for disabled guests or children. The room was far too hot, and although we were told there’d be a single and a double bed, the double was smaller than an average bed.
