Mars Hotel Sea View

The friendly staff couldn’t make up for the problems with our room, and two days visiting family were spoiled by the lack of hot water. We were told there was a pressure issue, but the water was tepid at best, and pressure shouldn’t affect the temperature. At 9pm we were told the hot water would be working the morning we left, but it still wasn’t. The towels were smaller than I’m used to, so I used my own. There was paint on the bathroom floor and a wardrobe that looked cobbled together. The room looked directly onto the wall of the hotel next door and the large metal vent pipes on a flat roof. We were told on arrival that the lift wasn’t working. My partner has a disabled badge and was glad our room was only one flight of stairs up. We’re very disappointed and won’t stay at the Mars (sea view?) Hotel again or recommend it. If the hotel is still under construction, don’t open it to the public. I’ll post about this on social media too.

The place is still being refurbished, with the kitchen under renovation, so breakfast wasn’t available. Our view was of big pipes and concrete, and we couldn’t get hot water for a shower. I’ve since read reviews from four months ago saying there was no hot water then either. The owners won’t refund me. At £90 for two nights, this is a rip-off, and it ruined our holiday. Don’t stay here. I won’t be coming back.

Writing on behalf of a recent guest. They checked in a little early, and a helpful staff member waived the charge because the rooms were ready. They had some trouble with the room key, but staff helped sort it out. The lift was very basic, like a service lift. There were hairs in the bed, a faeces stain on the toilet, and the TV didn’t work. The landing’s automatic lights shone into the room, there was a random beep about every 30 minutes, and a generator made noise all night. The window looked out onto an industrial view. The website listed breakfast for £12.50, but it wasn’t available. They felt they got what they paid for and appreciate the positives, while hoping the negatives are taken as constructive feedback.

The tuck shop on site sells things like confectionery and hot drinks, and the friendly staff are never far from reception if you need anything. They’re working hard to make the dream work. Personally, now that I’ve found the Mars Hotel, I won’t go anywhere else, and the Seaview rooms are worth the few extra pounds. It’s clean, cosy accommodation with friendly staff, right by the Pleasure Beach and away from the central chaos. There’s a ramp and lift, the tram stop is across the road, and free parking is outside, with the Glitterball sparkling just a few feet away.
