We booked for the lights and made it clear that one of us used a wheelchair. After travelling 150 miles, we were turned away because they don’t accommodate disabled people. We were told the lift had been out of order four years ago and apparently still wasn’t working. There was no parking, and we never got a refund. The whole thing was a nightmare, and the owners were ignorant.

The beach-front location was great for the air show, and the bed was clean with a nice sea view. That was about all I liked. We weren’t told renovations were going on, and the lift wasn’t working. There was cigarette smoke on the way to our room, a large stain on the carpet, and shocking wardrobe doors. The bathroom was just a toilet and a tiny shower that we couldn’t get into during the hot weather; the sink was separate in the room, which had only one bedside cabinet. There was also just one coffee sachet. Disgusting place, I wouldn’t recommend it.

The night staff member was lovely, but the morning staff were vile and snotty. I’d emailed weeks beforehand to ask about balloons in the room and got no reply. The room hadn’t been cleaned properly, with rubbish on the floor and hair in the bath. The beds were awful, with every spring easy to feel, and we got no sleep. Then the fire alarm went off early in the morning.

The room cost more than Premier Inn, but it was in a disgusting state. The bedspread and towels both had big stains, and when we came back after a few drinks, there was no hot water. Reception sent someone to check the shower, and eventually we got a trickle of hot water. The toilet clearly hadn’t been cleaned, and old eyelashes from previous guests were on the carpet, which hadn’t been hoovered. Our room was next to the cleaning cupboard, ironically. If I’d paid around £30, I might have expected this. I won’t go near the place again. I should have read the reviews before booking. I’ve only given one star because the form wouldn’t let me submit without a rating.

The owners and staff were so kind and made our stay pleasant. We had a few small issues with the first room, and there wasn’t enough space with the travel cot, but they moved us without hesitation to a clean, cosy family room with a sea view. In the middle of the night, they even found a spare dummy for my little one, who wouldn’t settle. It was Sunday and the shops were shut. Thanks so much for going out of your way to help us.
