Braid Hills Hotel

I had a couple of extra days to unwind before going back to work, and the hotel’s calm, cosy feel made that even better. The whisky tasting was a highlight, informative and well presented, and a lovely way to experience Scottish culture. Staff were welcoming and attentive, and my room was comfortable and well maintained. Edinburgh is a beautiful historic city, full of charm and character. I had a fantastic stay and would highly recommend both the hotel and the city.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and we had a good-sized standard double room that was well serviced. The bathroom was spotless and the shower was really good. Food in the restaurant was good, though the portions were small. The breakfast buffet was very good, so it’s worth booking with the room. It’s a great spot, with a £2.40 bus into the city centre right outside the hotel. The place is lovely, if a little tired, which is to be expected for a 3-star hotel. I’d highly recommend a visit.

From the room, the little touches were nice: tissues, plant-friendly toiletries, and proper hangers in the wardrobe that you can actually remove. The bed and pillows were comfortable, everything was clean and simple to use, and the window opened. It was a friendly, relaxed hotel, and the room was nicer than I expected for the price. The menu is good and inexpensive, with a fully vegan option. Check-out at 11am felt civilised. Morningside and central Edinburgh are easy to reach by regular buses. There are lovely walks right nearby, including Blackford Hill, Braid Hill and Craiglockhart hills, and the Pentlands are very close too.

We were very happy with our one-night stay. The gothic-looking hotel is in a period building, about 20-30 minutes by bus from the city centre, and breakfast was good. Some parts could use money spent on them, like repainting the decking out back and maybe replacing its chairs and tables.
