The apartments were clean and had lots of space, so we had a good stay. Parking is available underground, though it felt a bit dark, and there was trash in front of the parking area. The elevator in our block, block 8, worked, but its lights were broken. Being inside with the doors closed felt a bit claustrophobic.
The apartment itself was nice, but the owners’ approach felt a little aggressive. There were too many notices about fines for breakages and neighbours reporting noise to the police, so I couldn’t relax in case something went wrong. Finding the place was difficult too. After collecting the key at one apartment block, we eventually worked out that our flat was in another block. That wasn’t obvious.
It feels like having your own apartment, since you can cook and do the things you’d do at home. I really liked that, it’s not a traditional hotel. The double-bed rooms are too tiny, though. The rest was okay. :)
I had to cancel my booking for an apartment for five, which was disappointing. I’d contacted the owner, Morgan, with a question, and he was so pleasant and helpful that I wanted to leave a review of how kind and prompt he was in replying.
We felt comfortable walking along the fairly well-lit Tollgate Lane to get there, and the apartment was quiet at night since the road is closed to through traffic. It’s clean, spacious enough for six adults and well placed just off the Royal Mile. We stayed warm and comfortable, and liked having a kitchen and family room where we could gather.
