The Baxter Hostel

The bathrooms were the main drawback for me. The shower and toilet area felt cramped, especially if you’re tall or broad, and breakfast could have offered more than toast and cereal. Still, I was very happy with my stay. The rooms were clean, the staff were welcoming and quick to help, and the location is hard to beat: Princes street and Leith street are a minute away, with the Christmas market about a five-minute walk. It has a quaint feel, and I’d recommend it to solo travellers in Edinburgh.

The beds were really comfortable, and we slept well during our three-night stay. Everything was clean and had what we needed, and the breakfast came in handy and was very good. We also got a lovely welcome from Jade, thanks for that. The location is hard to beat.

The kitchen has plenty of equipment if you want to cook, and there’s a locker for your things. If you’ve forgotten a lock, you can rent one for £3. I stayed in a six-person room, which was clean and well built. The staff are so friendly, greeting new arrivals and showing them around, and they’re always ready to help with problems. For a hostel, it has everything you could ask for, plus a great price and location. I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in the city.

The toilet and shower space felt too small. The stall doors bumped into each other, and the basins were squeezed into an angled corner with little room to use them. We only stayed one night and didn’t need to use the toilets repeatedly, so the visit was still very good. The room was cosy, the beds were extremely comfortable and clean, and the staff were friendly and helpful.
