The Royal Scots Club Edinburgh

We arrived late, but the desk staff were really friendly and made us feel welcome. We loved the atmosphere and the room’s design, which has an old feel with a modern twist. Our king room was on the second floor and had nice amenities. We had no noise issues from room #2. If you’re booking through hotel sights, I’d suggest choosing a king room so you’re on a higher floor.

The whole place has a lovely traditional feel. Breakfast was very good, with self-service pastries, fruit, and cereals, plus high-quality cooked options you could order from the menu. The room was spacious, with a good shower and handy facilities: an iron and ironing board, robes, slippers, a pod coffee machine, and a kettle. I’d recommend asking for a higher floor. The hotel’s in a quiet area, but the main sights are easy to reach on foot.

We had a really nice stay when we visited in December 2024. The rooms felt a little dated, but they were charming and cosy for that time of year. Since it’s a private club, guests can use the restaurant and bar. The prices were great, and we really enjoyed dinner.

The location is good, but there wasn’t much else to recommend it. We stayed on a Wednesday, and the music was so loud at 11pm I could hear the lyrics. The rooms are pokey, and like much of Edinburgh, the accommodation is overpriced. It’s quirky in a lot of ways, but a youth hostel would have been just as good and cheaper.
