The breakfast was first rate, made with excellent produce from the property or nearby, and the proprietors were welcoming and attentive. The guest rooms feel high quality, with thoughtful extras like homemade biscuits, chocolates and sherry provided as standard. Set in a beautiful spot, this has to be one of the best guest houses around Exeter. I’d recommend it in every way.

The setting is wonderfully quiet, tucked away among Devon’s winding lanes, with Dartmoor visible in the distance. There’s plenty of parking and the gardens are delightful. Inside, the house and rooms are decorated and furnished with real refinement. Breakfast was beautifully presented, with fresh-squeezed orange juice and a generous range of cooked dishes. I was only there for one night in July 2018 and left wishing I could have stayed longer.

The hosts were warm and welcoming, and the location felt like a hidden gem. The food was good once I mentioned that the burger baps would be better toasted. I was also offered access to the “sex room” above the host’s bedroom, but turned it down because the host had a toe infection. Would I come back if my husband were away on business? Yes.

A good spot about 20 minutes from Exeter, and easy to find. The rooms are roomy and comfortable, with lovely views. Breakfast had fresh fruit and a tasty selection of cooked options.
