I had a great week-long stay at The Social Hub in Glasgow. Since it counted as a long stay, we got a discount at the restaurant. The room was clean, and it had all the things that mattered to me: reliable Wi-Fi in and outside the room, 24-hour reception, a temperature control that actually worked, and hot water all the time. The staff were capable, welcoming, and willing to go the extra mile. Special thanks to Zoe and Daniela, and to the other staff whose names I didn’t catch. Strongly recommended.

My room was on the same floor as the bar, the 8th, but I couldn’t hear anything from inside. The bed was comfortable, the shower was good, and the staff were friendly and helpful. It’s a great experience, about a 10-minute walk from Barras Market and the Modern Art gallery, right opposite the Sharmanka Théâtre if quirky things are your kind of thing.

My stay at the hotel was good, but the communication really let me down. I chose The Social Hub because of the co-working facilities. During booking, I asked through Booking.com messages if I could reserve a space and was told one had been booked for me. At check-in, I asked about it and was told that it had to be booked separately and nobody would have arranged it. When I tried to explain what I’d been told, the receptionist dismissed me. I tried to book a day pass online, but didn’t hear back until the next day. The following morning I had to wait 40 minutes to get into the space, and ended up cancelling several calls. If the person handling Booking.com bookings had clearly explained that co-working had to be arranged separately, I could easily have sorted it out beforehand. I understand that the hotel stay and co-working are separate services and can’t be booked together, but staff need to communicate that clearly, both online and in person. I’ve worked in several co-working spaces, and this one isn’t for me. For a £21 day pass, I’d expect a desk and ideally a monitor, but day pass holders didn’t have these, and that wasn’t clear when booking. I ended up working in the corner of a kitchen booth.

Stopped in for breakfast. The full buffet was £21.50, or I could order off the menu: Eggs Benedict and an oat cortado came to £13. The greeting was lovely, the staff were efficient, the coffee was good and the Benedict was well cooked. Nice atmosphere, and the artwork on the outside of the building is incredible.

The staff were warm and really helpful, and we’ve enjoyed staying here before enough to plan another visit. Our room was spacious, spotless and very comfortable. Breakfast was great, and there are good facilities too. It’s close to the city centre but still feels quiet.
