We paid £44 for a Saturday night, and for that price it was hard to complain. My wife and I booked because we were seeing a show at the Victoria Theatre, just a five-minute walk away. The hotel is right outside the train station, check-in and checkout were very quick, and our room was clean, spacious and comfortable. We both slept well.

The train station is only a two-minute walk away, and the hotel was clean and tidy with reasonable rates. We were there for an overnight business stay, and had mixed up our booking dates. They were very helpful, rebooked everything for us, and handled it professionally.

The staff are friendly and very willing to help, and the location is great, just across from the railway station and close to the Piece Hall and the Parish Church. The hotel is in the middle of some major improvements, with the old dark wood replaced by a lighter, airier look. Our room was clean but looked a bit tired. Hopefully the upgrades keep moving through the rooms, because once they’re done this could be a real cracker. One to watch.

The location is perfect, but I wouldn’t stay here again. I booked online for £45 a night, and the room was very dated, with a dirty carpet and beds and floorboards that creaked. The bath tap got stuck and wouldn’t turn off. There was a tiny kettle, and no hairdryer despite the listing saying there would be one. At check-in I was told I had to pay a £100 holding fee. When I questioned it, the staff member was a little rude.

For £50 a night, you get a decent, comfy bed in the heart of Halifax. It’s a little dated, but all fine. There was tea and coffee in the room, a shower and bath, and a good-sized TV. It’s not going to be a five-star hotel, but if you just need somewhere comfortable for the night, it does the job.
