The receptionist was very helpful. I arrived wanting to check in at the desk, but was told it could only be done online. My phone had died, so she helped me using hers. The bed was comfortable. The cold tap on the bath was broken, and when I opened the window for fresh air, the heater switched off and I couldn’t get it back on. Apart from that, everything was fine.

The reception and the rest of our room felt fairly comfortable and clean, and the staff were friendly. The food and drinks were nice too. But the bathroom tap clearly hadn’t been cleaned before we arrived. There was no body wash or shampoo in the shower dispenser; reception said they’d refill it when I asked, but it never happened. The bathroom by reception was messy and unclean as well.

The area immediately around this Travelodge was really depressing, with litter everywhere. I doubt the council has taken action there for years, so I won’t stay at this particular one again. The Travelodge itself had what we wanted and expected: a good-sized room, very comfortable beds, and tea, coffee, a kettle, and the rest.

The location was perfect, and the staff greeted me warmly and were friendly. My bed was really comfortable, and the shower was nicely hot. Clean, friendly, and just right for the location. 10 out of 10 for my stay.

I came for an appointment the next day, but this was one of the worst hotel stays I’ve had. The lift was broken, and since I’d recently had surgery and was using crutches, getting up to the third floor was a nightmare. The room felt dated and badly maintained, from the old-fashioned physical keys instead of key cards to the tiny bath. The bath had visible grime, which the receptionist brushed off as a “maintenance issue.” The ceiling looked like it was falling apart, and the bed was rock hard, like sleeping on the street. I didn’t get one decent night’s sleep. There weren’t proper plug sockets by the bed, only USB ports. If you value sleep, don’t stay here. I honestly wish I could give Travelodge Hemel Hempstead zero stars. Never again, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Zero stars!
