The continental breakfast was very good, and the staff member serving it was warm and welcoming. The breakfast room was small, with only a few tables. At reception the following morning, though, I wasn’t offered another room or much help with the situation. The housekeeper said it was a budget hotel and I shouldn’t expect every room to be perfect because the hotel was being refurbished. That response was shocking. The receptionist did apologise and helped as I left. I took photos of the problems, and the night receptionist had verified them. I was given complimentary breakfast and Expedia refunded me before I’d even checked out. It’s a shame, because the hotel could be so much better. I booked for one night after looking at photos on booking sites. The hotel seemed inviting and comfortable, the price was similar to others nearby, and I wanted to be close to family and friends. It also has easy bus access, good links to Hull city centre and the A63, and plenty of shops, supermarkets, places to eat, and takeaways around it. There’s a popular Italian restaurant on site, but I didn’t get a chance to try it. Check-in was welcoming and informative, but the room looked nothing like the pictures. It was small and had a mishmash of furniture: a pedestal beside the bed that was much taller than the bed, and another worn cabinet with a marked top, one tiny shelf and an empty square space. It had lots of shelf holes, so I presume shelves used to be there. The wardrobe had two limp plastic hangers, and clothes slid off them. The bathroom and bedroom curtains were stained, one with paint, and the bedroom window was missing its handle. The old sprung mattress squeaked when I sat on it, and it was stained across the main area and on one side. There was no mattress protector or proper fitted sheet over it. The quilt was too small to cover an adult. The floor felt sticky and had raised square patches near the bathroom, as if it had been repaired. The bed was uncomfortable and I slept badly. The next day I was told I should have got out of bed and gone to reception for a bigger quilt. I did go to reception and asked the receptionist to see the room and check the issues. She apologised, said they were full so couldn’t move me, and asked me to return the next day to sort out another room.

When I checked in with a lot of luggage, the front desk staff kept talking about unrelated things. I said I was very tired and would talk later, but the receptionist accused me of being rude. Another problem came when I put the small bin outside my room for housekeeping to empty, which is normal practice. The housekeeper said I wasn’t allowed to leave it there. I asked them to come in and take the rubbish from the bin instead, but some fell on the floor and they refused to clean it up, telling me to do it myself.

The room was basic but fine for what we needed, and the hotel was clean to a high standard. We checked in earlier than expected and got complimentary water on arrival, then a complimentary bacon sandwich the next day. The service was hard to fault. But the bed and mattress were awful, uncomfortable, and really noisy whenever I moved. I had a terrible night’s sleep, so I wouldn’t return.

We had a great stay and will come back. The staff were fantastic, courteous, and professional while still warm and friendly. Nothing seemed too much trouble, and the hotel offered that famous Hull hospitality. Our room was a decent size, though a little tired in places. The facilities were good, with everything you’d find elsewhere as well as a fridge, coffee machine, and kettle. The bathroom had a bath and a very good power shower. Breakfast was a continental buffet with lots of good options, and the service was great. There’s a non-affiliated Italian restaurant on site. The car park is next to the hotel. You can pay separately or through the hotel, with several payment options, including RinGo.

We stayed one night on 18 July. The hotel was easy to find, and parking for 24 hours was very reasonably priced. Staff were helpful and friendly when we arrived and went above and beyond. The rooms were clean and tidy, and breakfast had a good range of continental options. The Italian restaurant was delicious, with an offer that made it very reasonably priced. We’ll stay here again.
