We didn’t stay in the rooms, but if we come back to Arran we’ll book at the Lagg. It’s a welcoming, comfortable spot for a meal or a drink, with a good mix of locals and visitors. The staff are accommodating, do their best to get you served, and are happy to chat. It’s dog friendly, too, and the resident sheepdog was a very good boy, a green flag for me. We ate there twice and ordered the same thing both times because it was so good the first time: the smash burger.
Pub food can be disappointing, but everything we tried at The Lagg was full of flavour and cooked really well. The house stout was delicious too. My wife and I brought our two dogs for dinner on a rainy evening, and the staff made us all feel welcome, especially the dogs. I had the veggie burger, she had fish and chips, and we split an ice cream cookie sandwich. Would happily recommend it. Just to be clear, this is about the restaurant, not the hotel.
The portions were so generous that we had no room for dessert, and the price was very reasonable. Our food was tasty, freshly cooked and hot when it arrived, without much of a wait. The staff were pleasant and efficient. I'd definitely recommend the place.
The staff were so warm and friendly, and we can't thank them enough for making our stay such a lovely one. The Lagg is in a peaceful, beautiful spot, and our spacious room was spotless. The beds were incredibly comfortable too. We'd love to come back someday and would recommend staying here.
The steak pie was terrific, and the serving staff that evening were upbeat, proactive and knew their whiskey. The hotel itself, though, feels tired. I paid £150 a night for bed and breakfast as a solo guest. After using the shower, I found the water wasn't draining properly and worried the bedroom carpet might get flooded, though it didn't. I told reception the drain needed some Mr Muscle, and they asked whether I needed more towels to mop up the water. Room 8, which other reviews mention, also had a noisy fan below it. I stayed at six other places on the island during the week, and this was by far the most expensive apart from Auchrannie, which was fantastic. The building needs serious work. Washing the windows and repainting the outside would be a start. It's going down the plughole, unlike the shower water. Lagging behind!
