The main drawback for us was the light coming through the window at night. There was a streetlight right outside our room, and the curtains didn’t block it at all, so it felt like sleeping with the light on. We also could have used more milk each day: there were plenty of coffee and tea bags, but only enough milk for two drinks. With no fridge or way to get fresh milk on site, that was disappointing. Glasses for the water would have been handy too. Even with those issues, we’d definitely stay again and recommend the place. It’s fabulous value for money, the food is fantastic, and the pub and staff are friendly and helpful. Our rooms, 7 & 1, were lovely, with modern furnishings, tasteful decor, and gorgeous bathrooms. The heating was adequate, the bathroom radiator worked well, the towels were fluffy and spotless, and the shower was hot and good enough. We stayed at Carlton Tavern to be near relatives, and the location was perfect for us. It’s very close to Euston for our travel plans, with two stops on the lioness line, which runs every couple of minutes. Booking was easy, as were the entry instructions. The rooms are behind the pub, up private steps and away from the main road.

It was a haven from the London rain once we got inside, and we really enjoyed our stay. The rooms behind the tavern are beautiful, and the tavern itself is just as lovely. The price was excellent for an overnight in London, where prices elsewhere seem to have skyrocketed. It felt like exceptional value for the standard. Finding it late at night was a little tricky. More signs and lighting might help, since we had to walk through a dark alley or long, empty beer garden.

We ate at the pub downstairs and had a great meal in a friendly atmosphere. Inside the room, you couldn’t hear the pub at all, and the place was surprisingly soundproof. The room was comfortable and clean, with everything needed for a nice stay, and it was finished to a high standard. It even had air conditioning. The check-in and lock system was a little confusing at first, but useful once we got used to it.

The room was really cozy, and the location felt very safe. Check-in was easy. A great place to stay, and I’d definitely recommend it.

The rooms are super stylish, but communication failed when I had a problem. My door stopped opening, nobody answered the phone, and my email didn’t get a reply for three hours. Being locked out was a terrible experience.
