The Z Hotel Soho

The area is busy, with lots of tourists and noise at all hours, day and night. If you’re fine with that, the location may suit you. I had a nice view from the window, and the room felt reasonably clean, though it was very small. It had what I needed, but a shower door or even a curtain would have stopped water getting into the toilet area. I guess there wasn’t room for one. There was just one coffee sachet and no tea in my room, but four milks and four sugars. For more coffee or tea, you have to ask at reception. Staff rarely said hello when I came or went, and that would have improved the experience. Still, it was a decent stay with not much else to complain about.

For what the room cost, I expected more usable space. There wasn’t anywhere to open my suitcase, not even on the floor, and no power socket by the bed for charging devices. A strip light flickered and looked like a makeshift installation, with a connector block and insulation tape. The serious safety concern was how dark it was by the door. You’d need a torch to read the room’s emergency evacuation sign, and you’d need one to see the thermostat too.

The staff were excellent, and the hotel is in a perfect spot. The rooms are small, as others have mentioned. The bathroom doesn’t leave much to the imagination, so only share with someone you’re really comfortable around. Otherwise, it’s a nice hotel.

You step straight out into everything: shops, sightseeing, restaurants, bars, live music, and theatres. The location’s hard to beat, and the staff were some of the friendliest I’ve ever come across. They were accommodating and always served us with a smile. A perfect choice.
