The only downside was loud music outside late into the night. It was Friday in the town centre, though, so we didn’t blame the hotel. The Leven had a lovely cottage feel that suited Stokesley, and we’d stay again. My partner and I had a deluxe double. The room was modern and beautifully decorated, with a soft, comfortable bed. The bathroom was spacious and had both a bath and a shower, plus a kettle and tea and coffee to help ourselves to.

The room was modern and had all the amenities I needed, and the location was great. I asked about my reservation at the pub and was checked in quickly afterwards. Thanks for helping me charge my phone, too. The staff were attentive and really helpful.

There’s no breakfast at the hotel, but plenty of places to eat in town. We’d stay again. The central Stokesley location was great, and the owners and staff couldn’t have been more helpful. They moved my step Dad to a room that worked better for his accessibility needs. Before dinner and while we watched the rugby, the team went out of their way to make us comfortable in the bar. They clearly love the property and are working through the rooms to bring them up to scratch.

I had a reservation and arrived at 8pm to check in, but there was no staff. Nobody answered the number on the closed sign or the corporate number, so I had to book somewhere else at the last minute. My employer later tried by email and phone to arrange a refund for this visit, but again couldn’t reach anyone. OYO has now been blacklisted by them. I’d avoid OYO in future.

Being in the town centre was a plus, with everything within easy walking distance. Parking was another matter: it was advertised, but there was no parking, only a permit zone outside with a two-hour limit. We booked based on the website photos, which was a mistake. The room hadn’t been modernised and felt very dated. The sink was cracked and seemed hazardous, bugs were crawling around the bath, the bathroom blind was shredded, and having the toilet by the window felt risky. There was no staff at reception. We were directly above the bar, and the music carried on past 2am. With the room overlooking the pub entrance and smoking area, someone also threw up below our window after one too many. The pub noise was unbearable.
