The Castle

The little house-like room was really distinctive, and check-in was easy. It was comfortable and near where we needed to go. The roundabout outside made some noise, but that's not the hotel's fault, and I still slept well. Breakfast was small, but there was fresh local bread I could eat, a nice little loaf. The limited options weren't their fault either.

I asked by email for a quiet room and ended up beside a busy roundabout, with sirens and loud cars and motorbikes going through the night. The advertised breakfast was described as fantastic, but it was cereals to prepare and serve yourself, plus bread and jam. I could have done that at home. They promoted a fairly extensive snacks and evening meal menu on their own website, but staff were surprised it was still listed, since they'd stopped cooking a while ago. Booking.com also described the place as a hotel, when it's actually a pub. It wasn't a pleasant stay, and I wouldn't repeat it.

A nice little pub, with good decor and a handy spot for a pint after walking around Norwich or Mousehold Heath.

The price was great for the weekend, and we'd happily stay again. The hotel and pub are well placed for a short walk to town, the train station and the football stadium. Parking was convenient, and the lodging area felt secure. We booked two rooms for six of us, three in each. Both were clean, comfortable and really nice, with a strong shower. There was plenty for breakfast, including local bread from Kett's Hill bakery next door. It was quiet despite the pub next door and being close to the city. The pub was lovely too, with friendly customers. Tom, who showed us our room and worked behind the bar, was very sweet and kind.
