The room looked lovely when we arrived, and the receptionist was warm and keen to help. The young women in the restaurant were just as attentive, always checking whether we needed anything. We were there for our usual Christmas night away, our first stay at this hotel, but the trouble with the shower overshadowed it. The water stopped while my husband was soaped up. At first we laughed, but we still needed a way to rinse him off. The receptionist apologized repeatedly and tried to sort it out, even calling for Karen. She offered a bathrobe from an upstairs room, but I said it wasn't much help with him covered in soap and having to walk through the hotel. When Karen arrived, the mood changed. After I explained what had happened, she asked, "Well what do you want me to do about it?" I asked what my husband was meant to do, stuck in the shower with soap on him and no water. She said she could phone a plumber, but it was Sunday. I called out her disrespectful, unprofessional manner and said her attitude wasn't helping. She argued at reception that she didn't have an attitude instead of apologising. I turned back to the receptionist, who genuinely wanted to help, and took the bathrobe. By the time I got back, the water had partly come on again and my husband managed to rinse off. As for breakfast, if a good vet had been serving the grill, I reckon a life could have been saved.

We had a lovely weekend with my mum and my husband. Karen was so friendly and helpful, even arranging a taxi for dinner since it was a bit far for Mum to walk. The rooms were comfortable and great value, and breakfast was superb. Staff were attentive, and the lounges were a cosy place to sit with a drink. Shops, bars and restaurants are close by. We'd recommend Fern Cottage for a meal, it's near the hotel. Thanks to Karen for making us feel welcome and going out of her way. Mum loved her.

Breakfast was delicious and there was plenty of it, with two lovely young women helping out. Sorry I didn't catch their names, but they were polite and helpful. The town is an easy ten minute walk away, with everything from ice cream to a scarf. Our room was clean and comfortable, the bed was huge, and the towels were the best ever. It's an older style hotel, but it's well kept and worth a stay. Big Karen made the visit so enjoyable, honestly a ten star host. Can't wait to come back and see you soon, big Karen. xxxx

The shower barely had any pressure, so bathing was difficult. The rooms were clean, and all the staff were lovely.

We had a good sized double room, and breakfast had a great choice with quality food and service. It was nice to find the biscuits replaced every day, though the toiletries weren't topped up. The place was generally very clean, but the bathroom ceiling needs the mould removed and repainting. There was a seating area, which we appreciated, though a sofa bed would work better than the single bed that's been covered up. Also, why is one bedroom window marked 'do not open'? If it's broken, it needs fixing.
