The hotel has a lovely idea behind it, charming decor and a nice woodland area. As a vegan and animal rights advocate, I was excited to find a place committed to a fully plant-based experience, and I really appreciate those values. Sadly, several parts of the stay fell short. After a seven-hour drive, we had to wait to check in because there weren’t enough staff and they were too busy. The service felt distracted, and we didn’t feel very welcome. Breakfast was small and underwhelming: my husband got a little pot of granola and an even smaller piece of toast with beans. Plant-based food is great, but the range and portions could be better for a hotel with high-end ambitions. Breakfast only starts at 8am, too late for us as early risers, so we rushed to get back on the road. We were also unexpectedly charged £50 for our two dogs for one night. The website says £25 for dogs, without saying per dog or per stay. When I queried the charge, I was told it was my error for not booking two, but there was no way to add extra dogs during booking and I hadn’t thought they’d charge twice. I expected a hotel with a strong vegan ethos to be more inclusive of animal companions. The response to my question felt dismissive and out of keeping with the compassionate welcome we’d expected. There was nothing special for our dogs, so the £50 felt unclear and unfair. We were there just over 12 hours. Noise from other guests and music from the bar late into the night also made it hard to sleep, especially with another long drive ahead the next day. I support the idea of a vegan hotel and its values, but the service, breakfast and approach to animal companions need work for the stay to live up to that promise.
Saorsa 1875 is a gorgeous vegan haven in a brilliant little town. The grounds are beautiful and inviting, and the rooms are stylish, clean and comfortable. Sandra is a wonderful host and such a lovely person. I can’t say enough good things about my stay, highly recommended!
The atmosphere at Saorsa 1875 was warm and easy to relax in, and the rooms felt comfortable and carefully designed. I was especially impressed by the food, which was inventive, beautifully presented and packed with flavour. The team looked after me throughout and made me feel welcome. A really special stay, and I’d happily come back.
We spent five nights at Saorsa 1875 and came away feeling completely relaxed. The Lynx room was spacious, well equipped and modern while still suiting the building, and the bed was very comfortable. There’s a pleasant woodland path and outdoor seating at the hotel, though the latter was less appealing in the rain. Pitlochry is only a short walk away, with shops, places to eat and plenty of lovely walks and views nearby. We tried a few pubs and restaurants and enjoyed the food there too. The breakfasts were generous, and the inventive five-course dinner was full of flavour. My partner eats meat, but was so impressed by the flavours and textures that they’ve since thought about going vegan. The lounge and bar are relaxing, with some lovely cocktails. Staff were friendly, welcoming and full of good local suggestions. Their enthusiasm for the hotel and its food came through, and by the end we felt part of the Saorsa family. We’d love to return whenever we can, and would recommend it whether you’re vegan or not.
The food was the highlight for me: every meal, from breakfast to the five-course dinners, was delicious. The menu changed each day and always worked, and I’m fussy about wine but really liked their selection. Staff were helpful, attentive and lovely throughout. We stayed three nights in the red deer room. It was cosy, with a roomy shower and beautiful bathroom tiles. The only thing I’d change is the use of space, as it felt a bit cluttered and smaller than it needed to. I’d definitely come back.
