Living at Stanhope House for three years was about as good an experience as I could have hoped for. My room had everything I needed and felt comfortable and homely. Commercial Road was a real advantage, with shops, transport and local amenities all close by. Having my university nearby made everyday life easy and stress-free. There was a short stretch of construction work. It was a bit inconvenient at the time, but it was handled professionally, and both my time before and during the work was amazing. The team made a big difference. They were warm, attentive and proactive, and always helped keep things running smoothly. I felt valued and well looked after throughout my stay. I love my room and the facilities suit me perfectly. I’ve got a beautiful view, too. The staff are always happy, friendly and ready to help. If something goes wrong, I get assistance ASAP, plus regular emails to keep me updated on what’s happening and how it’ll be handled. Communication with the team is exceptional and really well organised. I love it here.

The tour last year before moving in gave a promising impression, but things went downhill after that. The room needed cleaning when we arrived, repairs took a while, and we didn’t get the friendly service other reviews described. When we moved out, we cleaned the room carefully and did as much of the kitchen as we could. We left the room in better condition than we found it, but they kept our deposit and charged us extra. We sent a complaint with evidence and got no reply. Instead, they emailed demanding the outstanding debt, then ignored my response.

The room itself was lovely, but everything else was appalling. The building is constantly filthy, especially the lifts and stairwell, and you’re paying through the nose for it. After 5pm, forget about collecting a parcel because they’re too cheap to hire security. And if you forget your key, getting back into your flat is an extreme sport. You can also forget getting your full £250 deposit back. The people running the building are scammers who add charges for a “deep clean” even though, more likely than not, they don’t bother cleaning the room before you move in. Take pictures of absolutely everything when you arrive and before you leave, so you’re covered if they try adding extra charges. Lyndsey won’t bother replying if you email with a complaint, so I wouldn’t waste your time. I’d give zero stars if I could!
