A proper Portsmouth pub dating back to the 1700s, tucked away on Queen Street, just a 2 minute walk up from The Hard and Portsmouth Harbour station. I had a few very nice beers, including Guinness, and there were three cask beers on tap as well. Had a chat with the owner and staff, then it was just a 2 minute walk back to the main station to catch my train. What a great little place. Definitely be back. Cheers Gary.

The place has a lovely, relaxed feel, and the staff are so warm and friendly. I only stopped in for a drink while picking up friends, though I’ve eaten there before. You’d feel safe and well looked after even if you came on your own. Highly recommend it.

We really enjoyed the restaurant, especially the cheese platter, and the food was good value with plenty of atmosphere. The hotel is charming and close to the historic dockyard. Staff were friendly, and the beds were good with cozy rooms, though the shower was only so-so. It could use some renovation.

Breakfast is included, which helps make the price more competitive, and the hotel is very convenient for visitors. It’s close to both the Historic Dockyard and the railway station, so there’s less time spent travelling between attractions and the hotel. Just remember it’s a historic building with no lift. If stairs aren’t an issue for you, it’s a good option for a Portsmouth visit.

The staff were lovely, helpful, and ready to do whatever we needed. We had a great short break, and the food was good too. Our room was clean, nice, and had everything we needed, including a much needed fan. The Historic Docks and all the attractions are very close. It’s an old building with lots of stairs, so if stairs are difficult for you, speak to the hotel beforehand. My son and I were fine with them. Thanks to everyone at The George, we’ll definitely be back!
