The room was pretty good for what it was and made my one-night stay comfortable. The bed was great too. I’d expected a buffet because the emails after booking advertised an “all you can eat breakfast,” which turned out to be misleading and inaccurate when I had to choose from a menu. Even so, the vegetarian English breakfast was lovely, with tasty components that were most likely cooked to order. The staff were friendly and nice.

We had a lovely sea view from the dining room, and I’ll definitely be going back to The View. It was a shame we were the only people there, though it was a Monday evening. The food was incredible, one of the best meals ever. I had Chicken Veronique followed by a Baileys creme brulee, and my fiancé had fish pie then mixed red berry crumble and custard. Everything was cooked to perfection, with fabulous sauce and potatoes.

I’ve stayed again, this time in a renovated room, and can confirm they’re much, much better. It’s not a five-star hotel, but it’s great for the price. The staff are still very friendly and the restaurant remains excellent. I’ve had breakfast, lunch, and dinner there on different days, and all were great. The chef is clearly skilled and committed to doing things right. I wish I could give it five stars, but the two rooms I had before, on complicated work-related bookings, were very tired. I knew they were renovating, so I’d hoped the updated rooms would be better. The location is great, with wonderful sea views, and the staff were delightful.

The staff were very friendly and professional, and the place was clean and tidy with a view over North Bay. I stopped in for lunch and had the best cheese and chutney sandwich, with beautiful fries, for £7.95. Highly recommend.

The location, the staff and service, and the welcoming feel are the best things about this hotel. It’s a friendly, welcoming place, and you can tell they’re putting a lot of work into improving the rooms. It’s quite large, with improvements ongoing throughout. The rooms are comfortable and well appointed, and the sea view is wonderful if you get a room facing it. The downstairs bar and restaurant are really nice, and breakfast was great. A great place to stay.
