Hotel Catania

We lost money on a booking we couldn’t use, and felt completely disrespected throughout. Booking.com cancelled the reservation without my husband’s approval after the hotel failed to reply in time, even though he’d submitted a Free Cancellation Request well ahead of time because of a sudden family medical emergency. He tried several times to get help directly. When he eventually reached Sandra, she was rude, wouldn’t hear him out, hung up on him, and ignored his follow-up emails. The lack of basic courtesy was unbelievable. We won’t book at Catania Hotel Scarborough again, and I’d caution others about the way we were treated.

I was left paying for a stay I couldn’t use and feeling ignored. With an unexpected emergency in my family, I tried to cancel or move the booking well in advance and sent a Free Cancellation Request through Booking.com, but the hotel didn’t reply within the expected time. I also tried contacting Catania Hotel directly. Sandra was rude and unhelpful, hung up before listening, and never answered my emails. There was no flexibility or basic courtesy, and the poor communication left me feeling disrespected. I won’t book here again, and would advise anyone expecting professional, respectful service to think twice.

The quiet view over Scarborough beach was just what I needed, and the welcome was so warm. I’d booked Hotel Catania at the last minute after a local guesthouse let me down, and I’d nearly ended up sleeping in my car. It turned a night that could’ve been a nightmare into a really peaceful stay. No frills, just good vibes and great service. I’d happily come back.

Breakfast had a great range of things to choose from and was truly fantastic. The rooms were clean, tidy, and very well kept, and it’s only a five-minute walk from the door to the beach. John and Sandra were welcoming owners. In the evening there’s a little bar where guests can sit and chat with them or with each other. I’d happily recommend this guesthouse and hope to bring my family back often.
