Seacrest Lodge

The owner's response after we raised our concerns was rude and dismissive, accusing us of leaving the lodge in a poor state. That made an already frustrating stay even worse. We had more than 20 people in our group, and nobody slept well on the lumpy, uncomfortable mattresses. On arrival, both the toilets and sinks in our rooms were blocked, and we had to message the owner ourselves about it. The downstairs smelled strongly of pet urine, like dog or cat pee, and it was unpleasant to spend time in the shared areas. There were bugs in every room, along with dust on surfaces and crumbs on the floor from previous guests. The lodge also felt far below the cleanliness and comfort we expected from our past stays at other lodges. This was the worst lodging experience we've had. The combination of dirty rooms, the smell, blocked plumbing, poor beds and the owner's unprofessional communication left us very disappointed. We can't recommend Seacrest Lodge, and hope these problems are addressed for future guests.

My family were generally pleased with the place, though the dinner plates weren't enough for a group of 20. The tables and chairs worked well, and there seemed to be lots of other kitchen items, but they couldn't figure out the dishwasher and didn't use it. The house looked impressive. They arrived on what was probably the coldest day so far and found a heating problem, but a plumber came quickly to fix it. We live nearby and were visiting family who'd rented it for the weekend. The bus route makes it easy to get into town, with plenty of options depending on which bus you take.

A fly infestation made it hard to relax, and the toilets were clogged and barely usable. The lodge also felt damp and scruffy, so staying there was uncomfortable. We were very disappointed and wouldn't recommend it.

The owners were lovely to deal with, always quick to respond and helpful. We had plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms, so everyone on our Scarborough work group could have their own space, and the outdoor area was great too. I'd recommend it for either a holiday or a work stay.
