Farr Bay Inn

The beach and scenery at the top of Scotland are stunning, and the evenings at the house feel warm and sociable. The food was inventive, too. I loved the Chinese Venison Salad. Karen, her family and the staff gave me one of the warmest welcomes I’ve had anywhere, which meant a lot while I was travelling alone. Thanks for such a lovely house. The food was fresh and tasty, and we liked the relaxed, cosy dining area for winding down in the evening. Our room stayed clean and comfortable throughout, and housekeeping kept everything looking good. The host was friendly, helpful, and made sure we felt at ease. It’s peaceful here, with local places still easy to reach when exploring. The beach is a short walk away, and the bay views are stunning at sunrise and sunset. We had an amazing stay at the Far Bay Inn in Bettyhill. Everything was spot on, and we couldn’t have asked for more.

We parked our campervan behind the pub/hotel for £10 while doing the NC500, since we were self-sufficient. The people at the inn were very nice. It’s about a five-minute walk to the beach, through fields where sheep and rabbits roam. Keep an eye out for the black rabbits.

There’s plenty of space to park a campervan, and I paid £10 to stay overnight. They let me take my time and leave when I was ready, which was very accommodating. There are also little cottages at the back for a night or two. The beach is a beautiful 5-8 minute walk away, and I had it all to myself. A small museum just two minutes away taught me a lot about the area. The kitchen opens at 6 PM and the food was pretty good. The building and outdoor area are well maintained. Farr Bay Inn has a lovely family run feel. The service was warm and friendly, and the owner took time to chat and connect with guests. A real gem along the NC500, whether you’re passing through or staying longer.
