Mariners B&B - Torquay

We had a comfortable, very clean room, and breakfast each morning was lovely and cooked to perfection. The hosts were welcoming and couldn't have been more helpful. There were shops and restaurants nearby, and the main harbour was only a ten-minute slow walk away. My partner and I were fortunate to spend a weekend at the Mariners in Torquay. We enjoyed every moment and would certainly stay again if we're in or near Torquay. Thank you, Dave and Annette, for your hospitality.

Although the place was clean and the owner very polite, the rooms we stayed in didn't cut it. My sister booked the mariner for our visit to Torquay, and the photos made the rooms look roomy, with a large TV. They don't show the other rooms, which are very small. The en suite shower was barely a drizzle, and the bed felt like a slab of granite. After the first night, I considered booking elsewhere just to get a decent sleep. The TV was tablet-sized. The toilet also connects to a waste box that randomly switches on and off to dispose of waste instead of being plumbed directly to the main outlet. I wish the site showed some of the rooms we actually stayed in. They should invest in better beds and larger TVs.

Dave was very welcoming and gave us helpful information about the local area and things to do during our excellent early May bank holiday weekend with my partner. We drove, but were told all the spaces were occupied, so he suggested nearby streets where we could park free, just a few minutes' walk away. Our room was great, with a comfortable bed, toilet and shower, TV, wardrobe and other storage. It also had a mini-fridge and tea and coffee facilities, though we didn't use those. Breakfast was an excellent start to the day, with self-serve drinks and a help-yourself buffet of cereals, toast and yogurts. The cooked breakfast was tasty, and there were options to customise it. The Mariners is a short walk from Torquay marina and the high street, along a route with great coastal views. I'd highly recommend staying here in the Torbay region and advise booking through the official website rather than other sites.

There was always a parking space around the back, and the room had tea and coffee. The hotel was clean, welcoming and well organised, with excellent staff and a good breakfast. It's close to town and the main beach. I'd go back.
