The Caledonian Torbay Hotel

We went on a couple of trips and enjoyed them, and I'd definitely recommend Caledonian Holidays. The five-day break was lovely, with a nice room overlooking the sea. The food was lovely too, including the vegetarian option for one of us and the puddings. The staff worked hard so we didn't have to wait long for meals.

We had an enjoyable stay, and the trips Caledonian included in the price were extremely good. The rooms were spacious and clean, and the bedding was clean too. We'd definitely return and hope the lift situation improves. There was only one lift for four floors in this fairly large hotel, with a notice limiting it to four people at a time. That meant a long wait for anyone unable to manage four or more flights of stairs. Most guests were over 70, and quite a few had mobility problems. The corridors had worn carpets and paintwork. Depending on your room, there were extra steps between the lift and your part of the corridor, which wasn't ideal for people with limited mobility or wheelchair users.

The rooms were spacious and clean, the staff friendly, and there wasn't much of a queue at mealtimes. Breakfast was a good self-service spread, with dinner choices as well. It's very central in Torquay, on flat ground and close to all the facilities, making it the best placed hotel in town.

My son and I had a great time and it was well worth going. The hotel may not be modern, but the staff were great, very welcoming, and the entertainment was fab.
