The mixed grill was actually excellent, but it took 45 minutes to arrive, and getting a drink or paying meant joining the long bar queue. Nobody came to check on me or take my order, so I had to order at the bar after sitting down with the menu. I ran out of my drink during the meal and didn’t want to queue again while my food got cold. After finishing, I had to go back to the bar to settle the bill. The service was a complete waste of time, worse than I’ve had in a labourers’ canteen. There was plenty of parking, but the front and side doors were locked even though I could see customers inside. I eventually got in through the back door by the Premier Inn. Some signs at the front pointing people around would help. It felt like they might not want non hotel customers eating there. Sort it out.

The food was better than I expected, and I’d recommend the chicken curry. My room was clean, including the shower, and quiet even though it was on the ground floor. It was a great one night stay. The young blonde woman on reception gave me the warmest welcome I’ve had at a budget hotel. She’s a credit to the business.

Everyone on staff was polite, helpful and welcoming. The cooked breakfast was good: the poached eggs, black pudding and sausage were all good, while the bacon was a bit thin. The room seemed recently renovated and was finished to a decent standard. The price was reasonable too.

The room was good, but it wasn’t the one I’d booked. At check-in there was nobody at reception, so I had to look for staff in the restaurant. It took another six minutes for them to come over, carrying a freshly made coffee. Breakfast service was the worst part. On both mornings the doors opened late. Evening meals were slow as well, and staff often had to be called over. On the second night we got tired of waiting and went to KFC instead.

The room was clean, the staff friendly, and breakfast was lovely. Pam looked after us so well in the morning and went out of her way to make it a nice experience. Thank you, Pam.
