A proper homestay, really close to both the train station and the beach. Our room was so pretty, beautifully decorated, with cute floral touches everywhere. The hosts were very kind and let us leave our bags there for a while after checkout until it was time for our train. I had an amazing experience.

Being close to town was our main reason for choosing the place, and it was conveniently located. But it felt very dated and definitely needs work. The mattress was really thin and needed replacing, and the parking was not good at all. I left a pair of new sandals under the bed and rang the landlords about them. Funny enough, when they looked, the sandals weren’t there. I felt they hadn’t been honest, and it really hurt. I won’t stay there again.

We couldn’t find anywhere nearby to get breakfast, and the toaster mentioned in the listing had been removed. Parking was also misleading: there’s no reserving a spot, and the street spaces are restricted to one hour between 8am and 6pm, if you can find one. The bathroom was tiny and cold, the towels were very small and thin, and the only free toiletry was liquid soap by the sink. I wouldn’t have wanted to shower there anyway.

The house is very twee, as you’d expect from a vintage guest house, and the room felt a bit cramped. It was clean, though, with no mould on the sealant, which I always notice. The bed was reasonably comfortable, but the bathroom has clear glass, so you need the curtains shut, and some hooks were missing or coming off the runner. On a hot night we had the windows open, and the busy road was noisy. The lady was very nice and the setup is easygoing. There’s no breakfast, which I understand. The location works well for a couple of nights, with beaches, the quayside and shops an easy walk away, and the Rodwell Trail right next door, running a little over two miles to Portland. There’s room for two cars, perhaps three, at the back. It seemed a little overpriced, though everything seems that way now.

The mattresses badly need replacing. One was like bricks, and the other had springs digging into my back all night. There was mould around the shower, and the room fridge was mouldy and smelled disgusting. Sky TV was listed, but too many people were using it, so it couldn’t be watched. The room was dirty. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.
