Glenville House

The little rubber duck by the bath made me smile, a sweet touch. Self check-in was easy, and the room and bathroom were a good size, with complimentary toiletries. The mattress felt worn and a bit lumpy, which is the only reason I’m giving four stars, though the pillows and duvet were comfortable. The car park is small, but there was room for our work van, which was a real relief after a long drive and working day. It’s a short walk to the town centre, with lots of food and drink options. I’d definitely return.

We had a great two-night stay at the Glenville. It was quiet and very clean, and the location between Windermere and Bowness makes both easy to reach on foot. There are also bus routes right outside the door. I’d stay again if I’m back in the area.

The owners were friendly and knew the area well, with good suggestions for trips out. Breakfast had a good continental spread, and we were served quickly each morning. We stayed five days and would recommend the place. Our room was a good size with plenty of sockets for chargers and hair tools, though the bathroom was a bit cramped but fully functional, so it didn’t affect my rating. We asked not to have the room made up daily, so I can’t comment fully on housekeeping. It was clean on arrival, and the bins, bathroom and tea tray were refreshed each day. The central location worked well whether travelling by car or on foot.

Breakfast was delicious, with plenty of choices, and the homemade jam was so good we bought some to take home. Peter gave us a warm welcome at check-in and recommended restaurants we ended up trying. There’s good parking, and the well-kept outside area is lovely. The house is nicely decorated, clean and within walking distance of the lake, shops and restaurants. Our room was quiet, well equipped and comfortable for our three-night stay. The ensuite is compact but makes good use of the space.
