Queens Head Hotel

We had a great two-day break and will be back. The inn was cosy, with a log fire, lovely staff and a superb room. The food was out of this world, and there was a good choice of beers and wine at reasonable prices. Very dog friendly too.

The service was fantastic, and the drinks came quickly. I had the Chicken & Ham Pie, which was delicious, generously sized and great value. A really satisfying meal, and a top-notch dining experience!

The location is fantastic and the interior is nice, but the food was a letdown. I was very disappointed given the reviews. The food arrived warm, and my chicken main was really dry. I still can't understand why they'd use a roasted chicken breast unless it had just been cooked, which this certainly hadn't. It seemed reheated in the oven. I'd suggest pan-frying a skin-on supreme, finishing it in the oven for 10 minutes, then letting it rest. My wife's club sandwich also had roasted chicken, and it was warm. Her fries were warm and soggy too.

I really enjoyed the meal the other night. The pub is comfy, the service was quick and super friendly, and there's a great range of beers, ales and wine. It has some very good vegan choices too. I had mushroom soup to start, then miso shiitake skewers. They were a bit dry, with no sauce or even a drizzle of oil. I covered them in ketchup and ate them, but then ketchup was the main taste, which I'm sure the talented chefs weren't going for. Still, I got what I ordered, so that's not the place's fault. The chocolate torte was lovely. My OH had fish goujons with curry sauce, then a cheese and potato pie, which he really enjoyed. I'd definitely go back.
