The New Inn

The staff were such fun and had us laughing, and the atmosphere was lovely. We booked a table for five and got a really warm welcome. The food was fantastic, and the chef kindly made a garlic-free dish for one of our group. We’ll be back later in the year for another lunch. Thank you!

Everyone enjoyed the food, so I can’t fault that part. I had the Christmas dinner, my wife chose chicken pie, and our friends had another chicken pie and a burger. The pie was good, though its presentation was a little odd, as shown in the photos. The pub was absolutely packed on our last-minute trip out as two couples. We got a cosy table, perhaps too cosy, since my belly touched the table in three of the seats and I could only use one. The seats were among the most uncomfortable I’ve sat on in ages. It was also chaotic getting our orders taken, as someone had to notice us first. An interesting visit, and not a bad one, but I’m not sure my backside could manage those seats again...😕

We arrived late, and the staff were wonderful and very helpful. They moved us to a downstairs room because I had a really large suitcase. Parking was a little tricky, but we managed to move the car later that evening. The original old room was beautiful, spacious and had a very comfortable bed.

We pulled in for lunch while driving west along the A30. The chicken risotto was delicious and reasonably priced, and there was good wine too. It’s a lovely old inn with plenty of atmosphere, right in the centre of the village. The staff were friendly and attentive. I’d happily recommend it as a place to stop.
