David, the general manager, really makes this place special. He remembered Fred from our last visit, and Fred even got a welcome letter from Toby the resident dog. We love how friendly everyone is here, especially toward Fred, who’s celebrating his first birthday today. We stopped at the Galtres Lodge again on our way from Newcastle to Sheffield and had a perfect evening meal in the restaurant. It’s central, full of charm and character, and an absolute gem. We’ll definitely be back as soon as we can. Thank you for being such amazing hosts!

We had a wonderful stay. Our room was just right, and the location and price were spot on. Everyone on staff was so helpful, and they even surprised my wife with chocolates for her birthday. Dinner in the restaurant on our first night was excellent. We were looking forward to breakfast after that, and it didn’t disappoint. If you’re staying in York, book here. Even if you’re not staying overnight, the food and drinks are worth a visit.

This cosy little lodge is right in the centre of York, so everything is just minutes away. The place feels homely and comfortable, and the service was lovely, especially from David. When I told the staff I’d been proposed to that weekend, they congratulated us and brought out a cute dessert board.

We’re here for our first anniversary and really love this hotel. The owners clearly care about their guests, and the staff are so accommodating. Breakfast was amazing, and they treat dogs as well as people. After a long journey, our black lab appreciated the dog bed, bowl, and treats in the room. The bed is incredibly comfortable too. The room’s a little cold, but nothing a heater can’t fix. I’d never been to York before, but we’d really like to make this an annual trip and stay here again!

We spent two nights in room 5 at galtres lodge for my 50th birthday and couldn’t fault the place. The room had loads of character and a beautiful open fireplace, and the bed was probably the most comfortable hotel mattress I’ve slept on. The staff were really friendly. The location was perfect and breakfast was lovely. I can’t wait to stay here again. Thank you!
