The river view, with the Minster in the distance, was a lovely bonus. My husband and I stayed one night and really enjoyed it. The room was attractive, if a bit smaller than I expected, but that was no problem. Everyone we met on staff was friendly, and breakfast was excellent in a nice dining room. The cooked options could use mushrooms, hash browns and tomatoes. We'd happily stay again.

Getting around was easy, with the city centre a comfortable walk away, and our room was clean, tidy and roomy. Breakfast was the weak point for me as a vegetarian: the hot choices were beans, toast and eggs, with no veggie sausages, hash browns or mushrooms. The chef said they were trialling a new menu for a month, so perhaps the usual options will return. The cold breakfast was decent, but I’d hoped for something warm to start the day.

The only small drawback was the bar noise across the river, which carried into our riverside room. That isn't the hotel's fault, though, and I'd still recommend it. The room was clean with a good view, and the staff were lovely and helpful. Breakfast was fantastic, too. You're right in the middle of York, with the city walls only three minutes away.

Reception, bar and breakfast staff were all really nice and helpful. My first room, booked as a single, was labelled “cosy” and was unusually tiny, with a high bed I could barely climb into and the smallest shower I've ever seen. The air conditioning didn't work, so they moved me to a much bigger, lovely room where it worked perfectly. Neither room had a proper wardrobe, just a sort of hanging arrangement. It's been a few years since I last stayed in a Radisson, so I don't know if that's normal.

We paid extra for a room with a balcony and river view, and it was well worth it. We may have had one of the best rooms, so that could colour my review. The king-size bed was very comfortable, breakfast was amazing, and the reception and breakfast staff were pleasant and helpful. The hotel is very close to York centre. Secure covered parking costs extra, but was worth every penny.
