The Minster Hotel York

The breakfasts are a highlight, cooked to order and properly top notch. We always find the Minster Hotel the best place to stay in York. The reception, kitchen, and dining staff are all exceptionally kind, friendly, and efficient, which made for a really relaxing visit.

The room was huge, especially the bed, and reception staff were very welcoming. Breakfast was a good cooked one too. The big problem was the heat: switching off the radiator changed nothing, and at times it was like trying to sleep in a sauna. It was really uncomfortable, so I had to open the ground-floor window, which didn't feel ideal. Apart from that, we had a lovely stay and would recommend it.

The staff made the biggest difference. Jack (John), on the night shift, and Gemma at Reception and in the restaurant went out of their way to sort out the extras we needed. Everyone was outstanding with us and couldn't have done more. We were two couples and had requested the two ground-level rooms, 18 and19. Both were very clean, with toiletries and soap, plus tea, coffee, and biscuits. The hotel is close to york centre, an easy flat walk of about 10 minutes. Breakfast had a wide self-service continental selection as well as an excellent full English cooked to order at the table. Booking direct saved us 30.00 across the two rooms and car, and meant free parking in the hotel's car park. It was a very welcoming stay.

The private car park is a definite bonus, and the staff are particularly first class. We’ve just got home from our annual visit with friends to the Minster Hotel York, and it remains one of our favourite breaks. The location, rooms, and breakfast are all first rate too.
