The neighborhood looked a little questionable at first, but I had no trouble at all. I walked most places or used the metro from the nearby square. The staff were lovely and helpful, and their restaurant suggestions were seriously delicious. It’s such a clean, cozy hostel, with super comfortable curtained beds and big storage underneath. Free tea, coffee, and a light breakfast made it feel welcoming, and the hostel events, including Greek alcohol tastings, were reasonably priced. It’s one of my top five hostels, and I’ve stayed in plenty. I only wish reception were open around the clock, since some flights arrive at odd hours, like mine did. There’s a really nice atmosphere for meeting people and relaxing. I’d happily come back.

The location worked well for getting around, with transport nearby, though the area felt a little rough at night. Inside, Baloo Hostel Athens was clean, cozy, and well looked after. The staff were so welcoming, and it was easy to chat with other travelers while still having room to unwind. Great value, and I’d stay again.

The people working here are what made Baloo one of my favorite hostels in Athens. They were warm, happy to chat, and even made a great mulled wine. The beds were really comfortable too, and the privacy screens were a nice touch. I’m cycling around Europe, and this place is very close to the EuroVelo route through Athens. They also let me lock my bike in the inner courtyard. I’ll be back!

I felt safe here as a woman traveling alone, and other guests seemed to have no trouble during my stay either, even though the area around the building might not look reassuring at first. The kitchen is roomy and well equipped, and there are cozy shared spaces. My room was clean and pretty, the location was good, and the staff were really nice. A great place to spend a few days in Athens. I’ll come back when I’m in town. :)

Some people call the neighborhood 'the slums', which feels a bit dramatic to me. If you get unsettled easily, you might not enjoy being there. Anyone who's spent time in a big city, especially in the US, may find it familiar, though still sad. The hostel itself was very clean, had good amenities, and was one of the better places I’ve stayed. The service was friendly, and they gave me great local recommendations.
