Kadia Traditional Residences

Privacy doesn't mean much here. I've travelled a lot, and this was the first time a landlady came straight into our room, went to the toilet, then closed the window. Another time she reached into our room to shut it again. She seems very sensitive about using the air conditioner, which is why she kept coming in to close the window. But when someone uses the toilet, you need to open it because of the smell. She was also very pushy about selling tour packages that she makes money from. There was a kettle in the room, but it didn't work. I think that was because of the electricity use. No tea, coffee, plate, knife, spoon or fork either. We had to ask for everything, though they did bring it when asked, even toilet paper. The jacuzzi only had cold water, and its circulation pump wasn't working. Worst experience.

We spent two nights here and found the place very clean and nicely decorated. The WiFi worked perfectly throughout the residence, and there's AC in the room, though opening the window lets in a cool breeze. The host was extremely helpful and gave advice at all hours. Breakfast comes on the terrace, with a stunning sea view, and every room has its own private jacuzzi. One thing to know is that the residence sits on a pretty steep slope. You'll need a car, taxi or bike, unless you're fit enough to walk uphill to the lively neighborhoods, about 15 to 20 minutes away. Good value for the money.

The hilltop setting gives you amazing eastern views and a breeze that really helps in summer. Even on a hot day, opening the windows was enough for me, so I didn't need the AC. Evangelia is a great host and makes a lovely homemade breakfast every day. The rooms get cleaned more than once a day, and each has its own jacuzzi. Great place, I'd go back.

The hillside is steep, and you'll need a car to get around. Even the nearest restaurant is a 10-minute walk up or down the hills. Oia isn't too far by car, though the island was much bigger than I expected. Kadia is built into the slope, with beautiful, cave-like rooms. Ours had just one window on the door, so it stayed lovely and dark in the morning. The cool-temperature jacuzzi was great, the bed was comfy and luxurious, and breakfast and hospitality were wonderful. Gorgeous views to the east.
