The pool is large, and there's happy hour at the pool bar every day. The hotel is wonderfully peaceful, with water almost all around, and the staff were friendly and attentive the whole time. Our overwater bungalow was spacious and very clean, though mornings could get a little noisy with regular river traffic. We'd definitely return. We also took an amazing private boat trip. We saw pelicans, iguanas, lots of herons and other water birds, beautiful nature, fort ruins, hot springs, and local fisher homes. The stop in Livingston, on the other side, was devastating for me. There were many rotten houses and the poorest dogs I'd seen in Guatemala, and I'd seen a lot of poor souls there.

I arrived by boat, so I can't comment on the rooms beyond what I could see: they each seem to stand on their own, with a porch, waterfront position, and air conditioning. The island is only separated from the mainland by a few meters of flowing water, and the setting feels like paradise. The restaurant serves from 7 AM to 9 PM, so there's service throughout that span. Laundry and free WIFI are available, and there's a backup generator for power failures. The staff were very friendly, and there's a pool with a poolside bar.

The bungalows at Hotel Catamaran are rustic but clean and comfortable, and the location by the Rio Dulce is perfect. A small boat brings you and your luggage over to the hotel. We had a really fun stay over our two days and nights in the area. There's a good restaurant, a pool, and an outdoor bar, and we also had a delicious breakfast at the cafe.

The food was good, and the location is amazing. I spent two nights at the Marina and really liked the strong sense of community among the sailors. What a great place.

We've been coming back for three years, and we'll keep doing so for a long time. The restaurant food is very reasonably priced and really good. We've never had a meal here that disappointed us. With no roads leading in, it's quiet and feels very safe. The grounds are immaculate, the cabins are quaint, and the staff are genuinely friendly and do whatever they can to make your stay fun.
