Harbour Plaza North Point

I’ve lived in Hong Kong for a long time and travel here for business often, so I’ve stayed at plenty of hotels. This one is a mixed bag. The pool is really nice, the gym is decent, the lobby is spacious, and the restaurant is okay, though pretty expensive. Prices here are usually good, but I think you could find better value overall. The standard rooms are spacious and the beds are comfortable, but the rooms look tired. The hotel is out of the way, even though there’s a subway station very close by, and you’ll need to travel to get elsewhere. I’ve stayed here a lot over the years, and it feels like the place is going downhill. On this trip I was upgraded to a deluxe room. The floor and room were nice, but the bed was ridiculously hard, so I moved back to a standard room after one night. If you need to work in the hotel, the desk chair is just hard plastic, like one at a cheap restaurant. I asked for a decent chair and they brought one up, so credit to them for that.

Our superior room on the 25th floor was spacious, with a lounge, small kitchen, large bedroom, and bathroom. The metro is about 100m away, across Kings road. Enter at Exit C and buy an Octopus card at the kiosk beside the barriers. Each card cost 50 dollars as a deposit, and we added 50 dollars for travel. After three days of use, we got 72 dollars back, with an 11 dollar admin fee charged. The travel worked out to about £3 each on a very efficient metro system. The lines are color coded, and a couple go over to the mainland as well as east to west across HK island. Some stations are huge and have four different exits, so note which exit you entered by and use the same one on the way back. We took the metro to the hop on hop off bus starting point at Ferry pier 6. I also recommend taking the wonderful Star Ferry across to the mainland from pier 6. It runs both ways every 8 minutes and cost us 50p. The city is beautifully clean and vibrant. Just be careful not to get lost in the huge shopping centers and connecting walkways.

I come here about three times a year for meetings and always stay at this hotel. The staff are my favorite part, hands down. They greet me by name now, and they’re great. The rooms are great too, especially those with harbour views. I like the food, buffets, and tea time, and the meeting space works perfectly for our needs. Thank you always. Joe Lorenzo

SCAMMER HOTEL AND AGODA I booked through agoda because I thought the reservation came with "free cancellation," but they kept all my money. The customer service was very poor. I sincerely urge people not to book this hotel or use agoda. It’s high time we changed the way we travel and book hotels.
